Our 6 piece Tang Horse set is a very popular and beautiful item. Each Horse is about 6" tall, and they are all differently colored and posed.
ang San Cai, a kind of Chinese traditional ceramic arts, which was very very popular throughout the world since Tang Dynasty (618-907 A. D.), the most prosperious dynasty in China’s history. "Sancai" in Chinese literally means "tri-colored." This is because the color yellow, green, and white were typically used in Tang Dynasty to make this earthenware, although some pieces were also in two or four and more colors. The tri-color glazing techniques used to make Tang Sancai drew on Chinese painting, sculpturing, and clay-strip forming and incising skills. The combination of these techniques helped to produce rugged and powerful lines for Tang Sancai. Its designs are most to be camel, horse, and human statuary etc.
The great influence of the horse throughout the history of China cannot be underestimated. In fact, the ancient expansion of the Chinese Empire was due in large part to the horse.
The rapid mobility of horses allowed for quick communication between far away provinces. Likewise, the military role of horses aided in the defense of the borders from nomadic invaders as well as the conquest and submission of distant lands.
The need to import stronger, faster steeds from Central Asia (as opposed to the local Mongol pony) led to the creation of the Silk Road. The importance of the horse in the history and culture of China can be viewed, in part, through the artistic legacy of this great civilization. In sculpture, painting, and literature, horses were glorified and revered.
Furthermore, horses were believed to be relatives of the mythological dragon, reflecting their sacred status within society.
